An accountant with the Cross River state government was on Wednesday shot by gunmen within the premises of the Government secretariat.
The accountant was reportedly returning from the bank when gunmen believed to have been on his trail from the bank caught up with him and shot him.
They were said to have made away with a bag containing the money he had gone to the bank to withdraw.
The spokesperson of the state Police Command, SP Irene Ugbo, who confirmed the story, said the victim was immediately rushed to the Naval Referral Hospital for medical attention.
Ugbo condemned the act, adding that the police were already on the trail of the gunmen who were said to have trailed the victim on motorcycle.
The man was said to have been taken to the nearest hospital where he wa treated for the gun wounds.
