Hopes of many Nigerian evacuees from Poland were dashed Thursday as the flight that was slated to bring them back was cancelled.
The reason for the cancellation was not immediately known to many of the evacuees.
They were later told that the Air Peace could not flout aviation regulations having been delayed.
Charles Ugwu, Nigerian Ambassador to Poland blamed the cancellation of many Nigerians’ attitude of lateness and sluggishness.
He said he struggled to get the evacuees from room to room to get them out of their hotel to meet the flight time.
Speaking on the cancellation, CEO of Air Peace, Mr. Allen Onyeama, said the job of the airline is just to get to Poland and depart with the passengers.
“We landed 9:02 am and were to depart Warsaw at 10am but at that time, only 2 passengers were at airport. Four hours later, only about four of them were at the airport. So, we had cancel the flight,” Onyema said
He said Air Peace does not joke with fatigue. He explained that the the pilot that flew the air craft to Poland was not the one to bring the aircraft back to Nigeria.
“They waited till 2pm and no one was ready. A lot of them had lost their documents. Some of them were fatigued on their way to the hotel. We have given them 6am till Friday,” he said
Oyeama disclosed that another aircraft is expected to be deployed to Budapest, Hungary to bring home Nigerians who are stranded their.
