A Lagos hospital has seized the remains of a former Nigerian boxer who won Olympics medals, Jerry Okorodudu after his family failed to raise the balance of the hospital bill accumulated before his death. NPO Reports gathered that Okorodudu died on Wednesday but an outstanding bill of about N600,000 was still pending at the time of his death. Okorodudu, who hailed from Delta State fought in the Middleweight category of the 1984 Olympics. Born Jeremiah Okorodudu-Okoro, the late boxer died at the age of 64. His wife, Adenike Okorodudu while confirming her husband had died, said the hospital, located at Lawanson area of Lagos, is not willing to release the corpse for burial until the money is paid. It was gathered that before his death, request for help was sent to Delta state and Edo state where he grew up.
It was however learnt that no help came from any of the states until the late Olympian died on Wednesday. Okorodudu was said to have developed an ailment in his leg which required that he be amputated .
