A 25-year-old man and beneficiary of Tony Elumelu Foundation’s entrepreneurship programme, Joseph Aboundrin, has committed suicide at the Dagbolu community in Osogbo Local Government Area of Osun State.
Joseph’s death was confirmed by a relative, Aboundrin Grace, in a post on her X handle on Thursday.
The deceased had reportedly taken his life over cost of living in the country, which he alleged to have taken a toll on his mental health.
Expressing her sadness over Joseph’s death, Grace described him as his best brother while stressing that he had hidden all his pain in smiles, pretending that everything was okay, while encouraging them.
“I still feel shattered, many words but unprocessed, you were the best brother, you encouraged us all, but you went to voice out in a space we couldn’t thought of, you hide it all from us, you went all about with fake laughter and smiles. Now we can’t get all over it.
“He is my cousin (man is just a big brother) None of our laments can bring him back, the tagging is much! I personally have be to strong, No one’s fault. Please if there’s one or two, please and please try to heal🥹it is needed, we’re all striving!! It’s not easy for anyone.” Grace wrote.
Abodundrin had been active on his X handle where he shared his struggles and suicidal thoughts.

However, the deceased would hint his struggle with the depression the following day as he admitted to be lost with his mind tearing him apart.
“My mind is a storm, tearing me apart. Each sunrise, each ticking hour drags me closer to madness. I don’t know how to stop this chaos.
If you’ve felt this way, please tell me it gets better… because I’m lost.” He wrote.
Aboundrin would eventually call for help in series of posts on the 7th of January 2025.
“I need help! I don’t want to die yet, but I can’t bear this pain & trauma anymore. I’m sick and drained of trying to act normal, worst still, I don’t know how to act abnormal.
“Fear keeps shrinking my world. Now it’s about to take my very life. Help me escape this once and for all, Lord God!!!” Abodundrin posted.
