It was an emotional moment for former Minister of Science and Technology, Ogbonaya Onu as he almost shed tears at the Eagle Square Tuesday night alleging injustice against the South-East region of the country.
Onu, when called to make his address to delegates at the ongoing presidential primaries of the party in Abuja, said it has amounted to injustice to deny the South-East the opportunity to produce Nigeria’s next president on the platform of the All Progressive Congress.
Onu went down the memory lane the roles he had played before in the political arrangements in the country as part of his contributions towards a stable, united Nigeria.
He said his roles had been to ensure political alignments that would guarantee justice in the hope that justice would be done at all times.
Onu who looked at President Buhari and seemed to be pricking his conscience, said justice is the moto of the APC.
“Where is the justice?” he demanded.
He said he had expected the presidential ticket of the APC should have been zoned to the the zone to create inclusiveness.
Read His Words:
“The Motto of APC is ’Justice, Peace and Unity’ and we must uphold it because wherever there is justice, we will have peace and prosperity will follow.
“What is very, very important, exceptionally important, is that we must ensure that justice is upheld,”
“Naturally, it should be somebody from the South East that will replace (Buhari), and that will give the opposite South versus North and Christian versus Muslim a balance, and it will bring stability to the nation; it will strengthen Nigeria.
“The South West had eight years as president, eight years as vice president; the South-South had eight years as president and vice president; where is the justice? Where is the justice?” Dr. Onu asked in anguish.
“I sacrificed my presidential ambition in the past just so that two candidates from the South West could run.
“23 years ago, I held the presidential ticket for one of the three parties then, but I had to let it go in order to solve a problem with the South West, to make sure that two Olus contested for the presidency, that head or tail, one will become the president and that brought down tension within the country.
“This is what would have happened if we allowed the South East at this time.
