Former Nigerian Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun, has recounted her robbery ordeal while in office.
Adeosun narrated the experience in an interview on Channels TV Inside Sources programme on Friday.
The former Minister disclosed that the incident occurred at her Maitama official residence on the 30th of January 2017.
She recalled how the armed robbers had breached her security details with Police officers deployed to the residential apartment fast asleep when they broke in.
“This was 30th of January, 2017, in Maitama. My home was broken into.
“All the security operatives that were supposed to protect me were asleep.
“The two guys got in, held us at knife-point, robbed us, laptop, jewelry, and everything.
“We were the ones that went to the police that wake up. And we had to take a decision.
“It was a really difficult time for the country. There were two things that were happening.
“We were in the middle of a forex crisis and Mr. President had gone for medical leave and I was about to leave for Euro Bond show.
“We needed to raise this money to restore Nigeria’s credibility.” She said.
Adeosun described in the incident as scary and traumatic, adding that it had sinceeft her with the fear of living in an unfenced residence.
“Yes it did happen and it was scary because I never slept another night in that house. I went to live in a gated flat.
“Now I always live in a gated community because it lives in your head for a long time. Having a knife to your throat and were like ‘where is the money?'” She added.
Adeosun also spoke on her time as the Minister, particularly the certificate forgery scandal that led to her resignation.
