Popular Human Rights Activist, Adetoun Onajobi, has queried the Nigerian Police Force over its warning to Nigerians on popular slogan, “No Gree for Anybody”.
Recall that NPO Reports reported that the Public Relations Officer of the Police Force, Muyiwa Adejobi expressed concerns over the usage of the slogan, stating that it can trigger causes across the nation.
“No free for anybody is being seen as just a normal talk. But in security, business, the security community sees it as a very dangerous slogan that can trigger causes” He said.
While reacting to the statement, Adetoun in a video making rounds online has therefore affirmed that the slogan is an inspirational push for many Nigerian citizens in 2024, considering the state of the country.
“Mr. Olumuyiwa Adejobi, Nigerian police have come out to say that the slogan, the motivational and inspirational push that people just want to use to push themselves to survive in this 2024 has become a crime or a problem.”
She made reference to the young lady from Globus bank who ended it all, relating her death with the the current hardships in the country.
“I’m sure she didn’t have the means or where to borrow money to japa from Nigeria, she looked at herself and looked at the promises her motherland gave her and none was fulfilled, she ended her life.
“Nigerian police has the audacity, where in the criminal code or which law has certified that the slogan “No Gree for Anybody” has become a problem or a threat to you?” She queried.
She further pointed out that the police is often fond of
harassing citizens for money, intimidating and taking bribes, therefore querying the police further.
“If you go through from 7up down to Ojota, the Nigerian police is there everyday of their life using POS to collect money from citizens and you think that is morally and constitutionally right.
“Everyday, the Nigerian police is at Ikorodu roundabout taking bribes from citizens, would take money transfer into their account, intimidate citizens while holding their guns, is that morally justified?
“The same Nigerian Police could not meet the five demands of END SARS, is that still morally justified?
“Mr. Olumuiywa, are we in a land of slavery? Is freedom of speech now a problem to you? You want Nigerians to obey but you cannot afford to give citizens the fundamental right that you owe them.”
