Rules Out Emergence of Northern Candidate for 2027 Election
- Safiu Kehinde
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has dismissed claims of tearing the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) apart while ruling out the emergence of a Northern candidate from the party ahead of the 2027 Presidential election.
Wike made this known while speaking during his monthly Media Chat held in Abuja on Monday.
The former Rivers state governor had yesterday raised eyebrow with his appearance at the PDP Governors’ Forum meeting amid allegations of being part of the contributors to the party’s crisis.
While refusing to disclose the resolution of the meeting which has both current governors and past governors in attendance, Wike refuted claims of luring people out of the party.
He maintained that he had only held his ground against injustice in the party.
“No let me tell you. Justice must be done. It was injustice. I don’t have anything against the party. But I came out to say this injustice will not stand. I will not support this. I am building it.” Wike said.
On the 2027 election, the FCT Minister claimed to have told the PDP to shelve the idea of taking presidency to the North.
“You can’t take presidency to the North. I told them. Take for example. If Mr. President run and win in 2027-for example, by 2031, APC will send their Presidential ticket to where? To the North. PDP will do what then? Come back again (to the South)? No.” He said.
When asked on PDP’s Governors’ Forum resolution on the 2027 General Election, Wike hinted that there is agreement which he did not disclose.
He however vowed to disagree with the forum if the agreement is not implemented.
“It will not be good for me to let the cat out of the bag. So many questions were raised- private and public. We are waiting to see what we agreed be implemented. If it is not implemented, I will not agree.” He said.
