Suspended Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has reiterated his commitment towards making peace with the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike.
As against claims of his reluctance to make peace with the FCT Minister, Fubara held that he has no reason not to make peace with him.
Recall that the governor was suspended by President Bola Tinubu following the declaration of emergency rule in Rivers.
Tinubu had declared the state of emergency over Rivers’ unresolved political crisis which involved Fubara and Pro-Wike lawmakers of the state’s House of Assembly.
The declaration led to the six months suspension of the governor alongside his cabinet and entire lawmakers.
Speaking during a meeting with stakeholders of the Simplified Movement in Port Harcourt on Thursday, Fubara held that he has held reconciliatory meetings with Wike at his residence.
“There’s reason why there won’t be peace between me and my Oga. There will be peace so that Rivers can move forward.” He said.
The suspended governor, at the meeting which was part of the activities to mark his second year as Rivers governor, expressed his gratitude to Tinubu for his swift intervention.
The President’s action, according to him, salvaged Rivers state from looming anarchy arising from the festering political crisis as he reiterated his movement towards establishing lasting peace.
“We are already in the peace process. I want you to thank Mr President for his timely intervention to salvage the situation, and stabilise the polity and the State. If not for Mr President, the story today would have been different.” He said.
Fubara however called for respect which he vowed to earn.
“I want to make a plea. They said I’m not a politician. But I know that what is mostly important in this life is respect that are earned. Not respect that is being forced. I want to earn my respect.” He added.
