*Says He Warned Nigerians Buhari Would Plunge Country Into Crisis
Former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose has said that he is not in the presidential race to later step down for anyone.
Fayose also reminded Nigerians that he warned them against electing President Muhammadu Buhari in 2015, saying he was scorned for his warning.
Speaking on a Channels Tv live programme, Politics Today Wednesday night, Fayose, confirmed that he had just obtained his presidential nomination form from the Peoples Democratic Party.
He said it would be wrong for the PDP to adopt consensus in the choice of its presidential candidate adding that should that be the only option for the party, the party leadership must pick him as the consensus candidate.
“I will not step down for anyone,” Fayose warned.
He said Nigerians should desist from thinking only some kinds of aspirants have the capacity to win elections across the country.
“Who says I cannot win?” he demanded. “It is wrong to continue to say that it only some people who can win. Who cannot? Whoever is the candidate of the party, all of us would hold our respective states. We are all big politicians in our respective states. So, people should stop saying only some people can win. Who says I cannot win,” he asked
Fayose, while speaking about the economic hardship in the country, said he was derided for asking Nigerians to reject Buhari in 2015.
“I was a young boy in 1984 when Buhari became the head of state and I know what Nigerians went through. I warned that I have known Buhari long enough but people abused me. Today, I have been vindicated. If I am a prophet, I will be making a lot of money. I have been proved right today,” Fayose said.
The former Governor who said Nigerians say things were hard during the Goodluck Jonathan administration, said what the country is going through at the moment is more than cancerous.
“If PDP gave Nigerians malaria during Jonathan, now, the current APC government has given Nigerians cancer. A bag of rice during the Jonathan administration was N8,000. Today, a bag of rice is N30,000,” Fayos lamented.
He said no one needs to tell the ordinary Nigerians the parlous state of the country. He said the ordinary man is feeling the heat.
“We are elite and we may not state it as it is. But the ordinary man on the street is feeling the heat,” he added
Fayose said the only solution is to vote out the APC government saying that the party has lost total control of the country’s situation.
