Oyo State governor, Seyi Makinde, has revealed that 60 out of the 77 hospitalized victims of yesterday’s explosion at the state’s capital city, Ibadan, have been treated and discharged.
The governor gave this update while speaking in an interview on Channels Television’s programme, Politics Today, this evening.
He further disclosed the increase in death toll to three while stressing that the state government is fully in charge of the situation.
“The government is completely on top of the situation. Out of 77 victims involved, about 60 have been treated and released. Majority of those who have been rendered homeless, we have provided temporary accommodation for them.” He said.
However, the governor warned residents living nearby the affected areas should evacuate as he claimed to have witnessed another building collapse when he visited the scene earlier today.
“Anybody living within 250 meter radius of ground zero should actually leave because we don’t know much about the structural integrity of these building.
“As a matter of fact, while I was around this afternoon, there was another building that collapsed.” He said.
On controversies surrounding the identity of the illegal miners who were alleged to be foreigners, Seyi Makinde, disclosed that effort is still ongoing on the disclosure of the identity of those involved.
He, however, revealed that the ownership of the detonated explosive devices have been linked to a company which he did not disclose.
“Yes we are trying to uncover the identity of the people. The company involved, we’ve done findings. There are indeed foreign names within the document of the company involved. But these are still early days.” He said
