ICPC Releases El-Rufai from Custody over Mother’s Death

“My beloved great legend of a father (@elrufai) is being released from his unlawful and illegal detention at the hands of one of the most corrupt agencies in the Federal Republic of Nigeria, that is a lame excuse of a pathetic institution.

“Thank you all for all the support. Our family shall never forget these times. We have overcome, as the El-Rufais,” he wrote.

The ICPC has, however, yet to issue a statement regarding the terms of his temporary release.

NPO Reported that the commission had held the ex-Kaduna governor in detention since the 18th of February when he was rearrested after being released by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

While the EFCC had initially detained El-Rufai over alleged N423 billion misappropriation, the ICPC would hold him in custody over multiple charges ranging from abuse of office to alleged money laundering.

The ICPC would earlier this week arraign the ex-Kaduna governor on two different suits with the first suit comprising of charges ranging from conversion of and possession of public property, to money laundering.

Charges in the othercsuit ranged from abuse of office, fraud, and intent to commit fraud to conferring undue advantage, among others.
