The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has debunked the alleged assassination attempt against Lt. Ahmed Yerima, the Naval officer who confronted the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, over a dispute land last week.
Yerima was reported to have escaped to have assassination attempt on Sunday evening.
According to military sources quoted by Vanguard, Yerima was allegedly trailed by unidentified men dressed in black and riding in two unmarked Hilux vans without number plates around 6:30pm.
The vehicles were alleged to have followed him from the NIPCO Filling Station along the Line Expressway down to Gado Nasco Way.
Following his suspicion of being trailed, Yerima reportedly executed a “strategic maneuver,” successfully evading the suspected assailants.
In reaction to the development, the FCT Police in a statement issued on Sunday by its spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, debunked the reports.
The Police held that no such incident was reported or recorded anywhere.
It urged members of the public to disregard the reports and desist from spreading unverifed claims.
The statement read; “The attention of the FCT Police Command has been drawn to publications circulating on social media alleging an attempted assassination on Lt. Ahmed Yerima.
“The Command wishes to categorically state that no such incident has been reported or recorded anywhere within the Federal Capital Territory.
“The public is advised to disregard this false information and desist from spreading unverified claims capable of causing unnecessary panic.
“For the safety of all residents, the Command urges the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the nearest Police Division.
