The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mr Usman Baba on Thursday presented N84.5 million cheques to 34 dependants of policemen who died in active service in Zamfara.
Baba represented at the ceremony by the acting Commissioner of Police in Zanfara, Mr Ali Dabigi said the money provided by the Police Family Welfare Insurance Scheme would provide succour for families of the deceased personnel.
He said the insurance scheme aimed at improving the welfare of families of officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force, especially those who died in active service.
He urged the beneficiaries to ensure judicious use of the money.
Hajia Fatima Muhammad, who spoke on behalf of the beneficiaries, described the gesture as a welcome development.
“On behalf of the 34 beneficiary families, we appreciate the IGP and Zamfara police command for making our families happy in the holy month of Ramadan
“We promise to use the money given to us judiciously,’’ she said.
