The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has withdrawn the invitation extended to the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi.
Egbetokun gave the directive through the Force spokesperson, Olumuyiwa Adejobi.
According to reports, Egbetokun had on Saturday invited Sanusi in a letter dated 4 April and signed by Olajide Ibitoye, a Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations.
The monarch was summoned over an alleged murder incident which occured during Sallah celebration last Sunday in Kano.
The letter requested the emir to report to the Force Intelligence Department headquarters in Abuja on 8 April, by 10 a.m.
It was gathered that violence erupted as Emir Sanusi’s entourage made its way back to the palace.
Suspected hoodlums reportedly threw sachets of water on the emir, which triggered violence that was promptly quelled by the police.
The withdrawal of Sanusi’s invitation was, according to Adejobi, due to the intervention of certain stakeholders in the country.
The Force spokesperson stated that the decision was in line with the police’s commitment to ensuring that policing actions are not politicised or misinterpreted.
