A Nigerian farmer and academia, Dr. Sherriff Almuhajir, has declared an end to farming after his farmland was allegedly destroyed by cattle.
Recounting his ordeal in a post on his Facebook handle on Saturday, Almuhajir who wrote in Hausa but transcribed in English by an X user alleged that his farmland was invaded on Friday night by over 500 cattle loosed by herdsmen.
The academia who claimed to have long being an advocate for farming disclosed that the herders also did same thing last year which he reported to them.
While recounting his loss, Almuhajir declared that he is done farming after years of futile efforts.
The post read; “Everyone who follows me knows the kind of effort I put into farming. We did everything properly, and the farm was doing extremely well.
“Even though the government’s policies keep frustrating farmers, that did not stop us from persisting with our work.
“But this morning I woke up to the terrible news that herdsmen have completely devoured and destroyed my farm.
“Last year they did the same thing and caused me huge losses. I complained, and they said I don’t want peace.
“Now look, they deliberately let their cattle (almost 500 of them) loose at night, and the cows finished off my entire farm.
“Honestly, I am one of those who strongly encourage people to go into farming, but if this kind of disaster is going to keep happening, where you farm and some ignorant person who doesn’t know what is lawful and what is forbidden comes and destroys everything, then as for me, from today onward, I swear I am done. I give up.”
