The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has recorded another attack on its facilities in Isu local government area of Imo State.
The attack, according to the Commission’s Chairman on Information and Voter Education,Festus Okoye was said to have happened in the early hours of Tuesday,20th December,2022.
Okoye in a statement made available to NPOReports on Wednesday stated that, the state Resident Electoral Commissioner, Professor Sylvia Uchenna Agu confirmed the incident to the National Headquarters,Abuja.
Okoye said while recounting the losses that were recorded in the attack however said that the attackers could not access the building.
He added that movable and immovable equipment as well as other materials were not removed or vandalized by the attackers.
“Eight windows were smashed, and burglary proofs removed. Fortunately, the attackers could not access the building. Movable and immovable equipment as well as other materials were not removed or vandalised.
“However, as a precautionary measure, critical materials such as ballot boxes and voting cubicles have been evacuated to another INEC facility for safe keeping,” he said
While ensuring the eligible voters in the affected local government of their safety,Okoye disclosed that the incident had been reported to the Police for neccesary actions to be taken.
“Similarly, all uncollected PVCs have been secured while security will be deployed to ensure the continuous collection of the cards by registered voters in the same premises.

“The incident has been reported to the Police and other security agencies for necessary action.
“This is the fourth attack on INEC facilities in Imo State in less than three weeks following previous attacks on Orlu and Oru West Local Government Areas and the State Headquarters in Owerri.”
Imo has recently become a center of attacks in the Eastern part of the country considering the number of attacks that have been recorded in the State.
