Nigerian businesswoman and social media influencer, Blessing Nkiruka Okoro, popularly known as Blessing CEO, has called for financial assistance after being diagnosed of breast cancer.
Nkiruka announced the diagnosis in series of post shared on her Instagram handle on Wednesday.
She had initially announced the auctioning of all her all wigs which she put on display in a video shared yesterday before making another video of her cutting off her hair.
This would be followed with a video of the influencer formally announcing her cancer diagnosis as she solicited for financial support.
Nkiruka disclosed that she needs to undergo an urgent surgery for the amputation of her breast.
“My name is Okoro Blessing Nkiruka and I’m popularly known as Blessing CEO.
“I have been diagnosed with breast cancer. At this point, an urgent surgery is needed for amputation to stop the spread. I don’t know how far the spread have gone. So, they are taking one of the boobs or both of it.
“Trust me, it was a very hard decision to come here. But the truth is when predicaments like this come for you, you become powerless and may not be able to do anything.” She said.
Nkiruka called for the support of her followers and admirers as the visibly distraught influencer struggled to contain her tears.
“Work, influence, resources have gone into this. That’s why I’m here pleading.
“If I have ever touched you before, if my words have ever sown any positivity in your life, if you’ve ever said Blessing CEO I love you. This is the time to show it. Thank you so much for the love.
“God bless all of you. Nothing is too small. I just want to be fine.
“I have never been this clueless all my life. I thought I was a Jagaban. I thought I was so strong. Being strong is now my biggest weakness.” She said.
Meanwhile, the video had sparked mixed reactions from netizens with some extending their well wishes to the influencer while others expressed their disbelief over her claim, alleging that she was either chasing clout or making content.
Reacting to the criticism in a video posted earlier today, Blessing CEO affirmed her diagnosis as she recalled her visit to the doctor after noticing a lump on her left breast.
“Thank you so much for the love, the prayer, the contribution. It’s been a bit of a hell week for me because I don’t even have a clue of what to do.
“I feel like there should be a lot of awareness when it comes to cancer because I get to read a lot of comments and yet get to see that a lot of people are ignorant about cance.
“Cancer is one of those dieseases that if I see it on social media, I just say God forbid. Or I pray for the person and swipe. I was completely ignorant about it.
“It started last year. I started like a lump on the breast. That’s the reason why the medical doctors always say check your boobs.
“So I went to the hospital. They took me for, is it biopsis or whatever? It came out after two to three weeks and the doctor said it was cancerous.
“I told him to remove the lump but I had a lot going on.
“So, he said anytime I’m ready. I started early January. I went and the doctor said we have to go and do another biopsis that we can’t use the previous one.
“We did another one and he said it is cancerous and it has spread to the left boob. So, we are trying to do one amputation, and the doctor is not guaranteeing anything until he opens it up and see if the other side of the breast is affected.” The influencer said.
While expressing her gratitude to her fans for their support, Blessing CEO disclosed being morally tired.
“I’m hoping I will be able to create this awareness because a lot is going on. Thank you so much for the love.
“I’m not the person that goes on social media to beg. But predicament like this just weakens you.
“I’m morally tired. One thing about medical condition is that you cannot do anything at that point in time.” She said.
Blessing CEO further described the diagnosis as overwhelming as she expressed her distaste for hospital which prompted her adoption of healthy lifestyle.
“So, I’m still going to put up my account number to raise substantial amount of money before I go because there is no certainty. There is no clarity. It’s just let’s open you up and it is overwhelming.
“Thank you so much for your support. If it touches you to just contribute no matter how little, I will be very grateful.
“I am not one person that like pity-party. Honestly, I have built a brand with resilience, strength. But I’m not going to lie to you, this took me off balance. I don’t use to be sick.
“One thing I use to brag about is health. So, it is overwhelming for me. I don’t like hospital; I don’t like drugs; I just stay healthy.
“So, it is overwhelming for someone who does not even fall sick. The turnaround was so much. I’m still trying to process it in my head.
“Even me, it is still unbelievable for me. I still look and say was there a mistake.” She said.
