The Innoson Manufacturing Company on Monday vowed to embark on an independent investigation into the allegations of forgery made against a candidate in the last joint matriculation examination, Miss Ejikeme Joy Mmesomma.
JAMB had on Sunday released a statement accusing the candidate of inflating her scores in order to claim being the highest scorer in the examination.
Chairman of Innoson, an indigenous auto company in Nigeria, Dr. Innocent Chukwuma, had awarded the candidate a sum of N3m scholarship for her brilliant performance.
However the burble burst after an official of the Ministry of Education in Anambra state called JAMB to authenticate the claims.
She was said to have inflated her scores.
In a tweet by Head Corporate Affairs of Innoson Group, Cornel Osigwe, he said the company will embark on an independent investigation into the matter.
“We’re doing our independent investigation on the issue of manipulation, if we found that the girl willfully manipulated her result, we shall withdraw the scholarship, but if we observe she is innocent of the accusation, then the scholarship stands, whether she is the best or not,” Osigwe said on Monday.
He had earlier on Monday voiced the disagreement of the company with JAMB suggesting a possible manipulation.
“That girl was one of the most brilliant in her school, according to the Principal, her parents couldn’t even afford to pay for her WEAC and NECO Exams. Of what advantage will it offer her to manipulate her JAMB score? Let the poor breathe pls,” Osigwe had stated in his earlier tweet
Fabian Benjamin, Head of Public Affairs of JAMB had stated on Sunday that the candidate’s result would be withdrawn while she will be prosecuted for committing fraud.
