Human rights advocacy group, Amnesty International Nigeria has charged the Federal Government to end the insecurity bedeviling the country.
Amnesty gave the charge while condemning the attack on worshippers at the Christ Apostolic Church Oke-Segun, in Eruku, Ekiti Local Government Area of the Kwara State.
NPO Reported that the church had on Tuesday evening came under heavy attack by a group of suspected bandits who opened fire at worshippers during a progamme.
A now viral clip from the livestream video recorded during the programme showed moment the worshippers scampered to safety after repeated gunshots.
The bandits invaded the church, carting away the worshippers’ belonging while abducting an undisclosed number of victims.
Two people were also reportedly killed during the attack.
Reacting to the development in a statement issued on its official X handle, Amnesty condemned the attack.
It stressed that Federal Government should end the impunity and ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice.
The statement read; “Amnesty International strongly condemns gunmens’ attack on worshippers at CAC Church Oke-Isegun in Eruku Kwara state on Tuesday 18 November, in which three people were killed and some of the worshippers were abducted.
“Alarming escalation of attacks, abductions for ransom and frequent killings across Nigeria have left people feeling more unsafe. The time to end this impunity is now.
“The perpetrators must be brought to justice. Across many rural communities of northern Nigeria, people perpetually live on the edge, constantly bracing up for the next attack, without any hope of protection or justice. Incessant killings and the stunning failure of the authorities to end them and bring suspected perpetrators to justice have been and continues to be a threat to the right to life in Nigeria.”
