Two late goals deep into final time gave Iran a much deserved win over Wales on Friday in the second Group B match.
Iran gave it their all against Wales causing what some would see as another upset in the ongoing FIFA world cup in Qatar.
After being walloped by England in their first match by 6 goals to 2goals, Iran came into their second match more determined and focus with a point to prove and they did just that by scoring two late goals against Wales in a match which saw the first red card of the tournament after Wayne Hennessey was sent out for a foul on an Iranian player.
Iran had shot to the lead in the 16th minute through Ali Gholizadeh only for the goal to be ruled by VAR for offside position. That didn’t keep the Iranians down as they kept pushing for the breakthrough. Their efforts paid off in the 98th minute as they got their goal through Roozbeh Cheshm.
In an attempt to salvage the match, the Wales had made several attempts until the Iranians doubled their lead in the 101st minute through Ramin Rezaeian.
This victory has turned things around for the Iranians and given them hope for qualification into the knockout phase. On the other hand, the defeat means Wales have to do extra work against England in their final match of the group against English side.
