Millions of Muslims are currently converging on Mount Arafat Mecca in Saudi Arabia today to offer prayers.
Arafat Day, annually the ninth day of Dhu al-Hijjah – the final month of the Islamic lunar calendar – is considered the most crucial part of Hajj pilgrimage.
This is the day pilgrims gather at the Plain of Arafat near Mecca in Saudi Arabia to pray, seek forgiveness and reflect on their faith.
More than two million pilgrims are said to be attending this year’s rites according to statistics from the Saudi Arabia Hajj authorities.
According to the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), a total of 43,000 Nigerian pilgrims are expected to participate in the Hajj.
While on the Plain Mount Arafat, Muslims pray for forgiveness, peace and progress as they consider they are nearing the end of the hajj rituals.
