Former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Prof. Kingsley Moghalu, has rejected his inclusion in the campaign council of African Democratic Congress presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, saying he was neither consulted nor gave his consent to the appointment.
Moghalu made the clarification on Thursday after Atiku unveiled his 2027 National Campaign Council, which listed the former CBN deputy governor as part of its policy team.
Recall that NPO Reports had earlier reported Atiku’s unveiling of the campaign structure, with Kashim Ibrahim-Imam appointed chairman, former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai as deputy chairman.
Moghalu was also named among those expected to contribute to its policy development alongside economist and banker Mohammed Hayatu-Deen and Prof. Mohammed Sagagi.
However, reacting to the announcement, Moghalu said he was surprised to find his name in the campaign structure.
“For the record: I was not consulted and did not give my consent to my name being published as a member of the ADC candidate’s policy team,” he said.
Moghalu further stated that he was not associated with Atiku’s campaign in any capacity.
“I am not, in fact, a member of Atiku’s policy team, even unofficially or in any advisory capacity,” he said.
The former CBN deputy governor, who contested the 2019 presidential election on the platform of the Young Progressives Party, said he had withdrawn from partisan politics since 2022.
“I have quit partisan politics in Nigeria since 2022. I have maintained, and continue to maintain, my non-partisan posture in our country’s national affairs.
“I am not a member or sympathiser of any political party in Nigeria,” he said.
According to Moghalu, his commitment to Nigeria remains unchanged despite his decision not to align with any political party.
“I remain committed to my country, Nigeria and its progress, but such commitment does not have to entail ANY partisan alignment.
“I have adopted the path of statesmanship, not partisanship,” he said.
