Nigerian Vice-President, Kashim Shettima, has called for a comprehensive review of how fuel is transported in the country while mourning victims of the tragic incident.

Shettima, in a condolence message issued by his spokesperson, Stanley Nkwocha, on Wednesday in Abuja, sympathized with families who lost loved ones in the tragic incident.

He, however, made the call for the review of fuel transportation protocols in Nigeria.

In the wake of a catastrophic tanker explosion in Jigawa State that claimed over 100 lives, Vice President Kashim Shettima has announced immediate Federal Government intervention and called for a comprehensive review of fuel transportation safety protocols across Nigeria.

“My heart aches for those who have had their families torn apart by this disaster. This devastating incident has shaken us all to our core.

“The Federal Government stands with the people of Jigawa. We are mobilising all necessary resources to support the injured and assist the families affected by this calamity,” he said.

Shettima, however, directed the immediate deployment of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) personnel and resources to Jigawa.

“As we contend with this tragedy, let us also reflect on the importance of safety measures and public awareness to prevent such incidents in the future.

“Every life is precious, and we must do all we can to protect our citizens,” Shettima said.

Recall that NPO reports the incident which claimed live of over 90 people, following a petrol tanker explosion in Majiya Town, Taura Local Government Area of the state on Tuesday night.

Meanwhile, recent report disclosed that the death toll has increased 105 while injured victims also surged to 70.
