Attempt by security agents to arrest former Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja has been foiled by a crowd of the ex-governor’ supporters.
The security agents suspected to be officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had reportedly stormed the airport in anticipation for the arrival of El-Rufai from his trip to Cairo.
Following his arrival, the security agents approached the ex-Kaduna governor with his international passport allegedly seized.
Videos shared on X showed the officials engaging El-Rufai who refused to follow them, insisting that they write him a letter of invite rather than picking him up at the airport.
“If you want to invite me, write me a letter.” He said in one of the now viral videos.
El-Rufai’s resistance would further be backed by his supporters who stormed the airport to challenge the security agents.
The former All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain was successfully ushered out of the airport by the crowd as the security operatives were forced to retreat.
