The Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) has commenced probe of its staff arrested over alleged theft of a three-faced prepaid meter in Daura, Katsina State.
This was disclosed in a statement issued to newsmen Mr Sani Bala-Sani, the KEDCO Head of Corporate Communication, in Katsina on Wednesday.
Recall that the Katsina Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) on the 21st of January, paraded Aliyu Muhammad, 38, for allegedly removing the meter from the resident of Alhaji Lawal Gadi, at Tudun Wada Quarters, in Daura Local Government Area.
According to the spokesman of the NSCDC in Katsina, SC, Buhari Hamisu, the suspect is a KEDCO staff member attached to the Prepaid Meter Unit of Daura Regional Office.
The KEDCO spokesman further dispelled the allegations of the staff involvement in trespass, tampering, and meter theft.
He said, “We take these allegations very seriously and have immediately interdicted the staff and commenced an internal investigation and disciplinary proceedings to determine the facts surrounding the matter.”
The KEDCO spokesman insisted that the DisCo’s regulatory framework maintains zero tolerance for theft, corruption, and fraudulent activities.
“Any employee found in violation of the company’s policies will face disciplinary action in accordance with constituted rules of engagement.
“We are committed to ensuring that the integrity of our operations and the trust of our valued customers are upheld at all times.
“We will not condone any form of criminality, so we are fully cooperating with the relevant authorities to ensure that this issue is thoroughly investigated to ascertain the truth,” he assured.”
Bala-Sani also acknowledged the existence of ‘bad eggs’ in every system or community.
He held that such actions did not reflect the company’s ethics nor did they represent the commitment of the vast majority of its employees, who work with dedication, honesty, and integrity.
“We want to reassure our stakeholders and the public that we will not treat such matters with levity and appropriate actions will be pursued against any individual, either staff or community member, if found involved in any misconduct,” he said.
He further pleaded for the support of customers to expose actions that could damage the reputation of KEDCO.
