The National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) has extended its flagship programme, the Innovative Naija Project, to Kano-based man, Ibrahim Bala, who invented eye glasses to prevent drivers from sleeping.
Bala had on Wednesday caught the attention of netizens with a video of his interview with Germany-based broadcast station, DW, where he unveiled his invention.
As demonstrated in the clip shared on X, Bala attached a sensor on the pair of glasses which gives a loud beep sound when a driver closes his eyes.
Speaking in Hausa, the Kano inventor claimed to have derived his inspiration from the tragic accident involving athletes who went to represents the state at the 2025 National Sports Festival held in Ogun State.
The incident which claimed the lives of everyone on board reportedly occurred after the driver fell asleep and thereby losing control of the vehicle which fell off the bridge.
Having earlier shared Bala’s invention in a post in his X handle on Wednesday, former Presidential spokesperson, Bashir Ahmad, disclosed reaching out to NASENI’s Executive Vice Chairman, Kahlil Halilu.
The NASENI boss, according to Ahmad, also confirmed seeing the video.
Halilu asked Bashir to introduce the Innovation Naija Project initiative to Bala.
“After posting this video, I had a conversation with @KSHalilu, the Executive Vice Chairman of @NASENIHQ. He confirmed that he had seen the video and asked me to introduce their flagship program, the Innovate Naija Project, to the young innovator and to other Nigerian innovators as well, so they can benefit from the Agency’s support and resources.
“Following that, I reached out to Ibrahim Bala and conveyed NASENI’s message. We also took time to discuss the specific areas where he can be assisted in achieving a real breakthrough on his innovative journey.” Bashir wrote.
