The Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, Jibril Ismail Falgore, and 21 other lawmakers have dumped the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP).
Falgore alongside his Deputy, Muhammad Butu- Butu; the Majority Leader, Lawan Hussain, and the other lawmakers resigned their membership of the NNPP barely two days after the state governor, Abba Yusuf, left the party.
The lawmakers, as contained in a statement issued on Saturday by the Kano State House of Assembly Press Secretary, Kamaludeen Shawai, declared their full support for Yusuf.
According to Shawai, those who resigned their membership of the NNPP included the Speaker of the House, the Deputy Speaker, the Majority Leader, the Deputy Majority Leader, Garba Fammar, and the Chief Whip, Muddasir Zawachiki.
Others were lawmakers representing constituencies such as Ajingi, Albasu, Bagwai/Shanono, Bebeji, Bunkure, Dawakin Kudu, Fagge, Gabasawa, Garko, Gwale, Karaye, Kura/Garun Malam, Madobi, Minjibir, Rano, Tarauni and Wudil.
Shawai said that a total of 22 members of the House were involved in the defection.
He added that the Kano State House of Assembly had verified and authenticated the list of the lawmakers as released.
The assembly explained that the announcement was made to properly inform the public and clarify the political position of the affected lawmakers following the governor’s resignation from the NNPP.
