Former Kano state , Rabiu Kwankwaso, has accused the Federal Government of alleged plot to impose tax on the state and take generated revenue to Lagos.
Kwankwaso made the allegation during his address at Skyline University’s third convocation ceremony in Kano.
Speaking on the proposed tax reform, the ex-minister of defense faulted the plot, stressing that it is an attempt to make the poor poorer and rich richer.
Highlighting the challenges facing the north, Kwankwaso warned of the danger the proposed tax reform poised on the cordial existence of the country
“Today we are aware that the Lagos young men are working so hard to impose taxes and take away our taxes from Kano and this part of the country to Lagos.
“Today as we have seen, even the telephones that we make or register here in Kano, the effort are there for them to take all the taxes to Lagos.
“Even our sons and daughters who have got factories many of them here in Kano and other Northern Nigeria and even banks because somehow they are forced to take their headquarters to Lagos.
“Taxes will now have to go to Lagos. We have seen efforts of some people to make the poor poorer and the rich richer. I believe this is very dangerous for all of us.
“This part of the country today is suffering from serious economic crunch, it’s suffering from serious insecurity. It is suffering from poverty, hunger and diseases.
“I believe this is not good for the existence, cordial existence of country.” He said.
NPO earlier reported the former Kano governor’s accusation of Lagos imposition of Lamido Sanusi as Kano’s Emir against the people’s choice.
