The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has slammed President Bola Tinubu over his alleged lack of proactiveness in tackling the heightened insecurity facing the country, stressing that the President is more interested in politics than protection of lives and properties.
This was contained in a statement issued on Thursday by the PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, in reaction to the fresh attack on Moro community in Kwara State.
NPO Reported that suspected terrorists had on Tuesday evening stormed the community located in Kaiama Local Government Area of the state, killing over 170 people.
While Tinubu had since ordered the deployment of the Nigerian Army battalion to the community, the PDP faulted what it labelled a weak, reactive, and irresponsible post-carnage military deployment.
The opposition party commiserated with the families of the deceased victims while calling out the Tinubu-led administration over failure to take any meaning proactive action despite the terrorists issuance of notice of the impending attack several months ago.
“We deeply commiserate with the families of those who have lost their loved ones to this dastardly act.
“The most painful part of this sad story is the fact that several community leaders have stated that the notice of this impending attack was available for months, without any meaningful proactive action from the Government, which makes the post-carnage military deployment weak, reactive, and irresponsible.” the statement partly read.
The PDP further reiterated that the presidency’s reactionary tactics have proven inadequate while accusing Tinubu of being more interested in his political ambition than protection of live and properties.
“Their current ad hoc and reactionary tactics have proven woefully inadequate, with attendant loss of lives.
“The Tinubu administration must be reminded that being reactionary has never been an effective strategy and cannot be relied on to solve complex problems.
“Undeniably, the Presidency is paying more attention to politics than to the execution of the primary mandate of government-which is the protection of lives and property.
“The blood of innocent Nigerians continues to cry out for justice and competent leadership. The time for excuses is over; the time for action is now.” The party wrote.
While talking down on the possibility of the military deployment making any sustainable impacts on the victims of the attack, the PDP highlighted actions that must be immediately taken to address the attack.
It called for independent investigation, emergency relief for survivours, and national security summit amongst others.
“The Presidential deployment of the military cannot bring back the killed people or erase the concomitant trauma imposed upon the community. In light of this tragedy, the Peoples Democratic Party demands the following immediate actions:
” Independent Investigation: Establishment of an independent panel to investigate the security failures that led to this massacre, including why early warnings were ignored.
“Emergency Relief for Survivors: Immediate deployment of humanitarian assistance, medical care, and temporary shelter for displaced persons and traumatized survivors in Woro Community.
“National Security Summit: Convening of an emergency National Security Summit involving all stakeholders. 4. Strengthening of Early Warning Systems: Investment in community-based early warning mechanisms and ensuring that credible threats are acted upon promptly rather than ignored.
“Furthermore, we reiterate our call that the Federal Government should adopt a whole-of-society approach in providing a sustainable solution to the insecurity problem in the country.
“This approach must include intelligence sharing between federal and state security agencies, commencement of State police, addressing the root causes of banditry and terrorism through economic development in affected regions, and regular security briefings on emerging threats.” The statement added.
