The Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) 2023 Lagos State Gubernatorial Election candidate, Olajide Adediran, popularly known as Jandor, has dumped the opposition party.
Jandor, who contested against the current governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and the Labour Party’s candiate, Gbadegbo Rhodes-Vivour, announced his resignation from the PDP at a press conference in Ikeja, Lagos, on Monday.
While his next move was not disclosed, He revealed that he is leaving the party alongside his supporters across the 20 local governments and 37 Local Council Development Areas of Lagos State.
“I will, in the next few months, declare my next political move,” Adediran said.
Jandor, a former member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and convener of the Lagos4Lagos Movement, positioned himself as a fresh alternative to the long-dominant APC government in Lagos.
To bolster his chances and appeal to a broader electorate, he chose popular Nollywood actress and producer Funke Akindele as his running mate.
However, the emergence of Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour following Labour Party’s earlier victory in Lags at the Presidential election knocked Jandor out as Sanwo-Olu’s closest rival, thereby truncating the PDP candidate’s campaign.
