Lagos State Taskforce has, in collaboration with the Ministry of Transportation, arrested 94 illegal squatters during midnight raid of Rail-Track corridors.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Wednesday by the state’s Commissioner of Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi.
According to the statement, the state government had, in response to safety concerns along the rail-track corridors, embarked on midnight raid which spanned five kilometres from Pen-Cinema under the bridge to Fagba Junction.
The raid led to the arrest of the 94 suspected illegal squatters.
In the course of their arrest, a locally fabricated gun, illicit substances, charms, and a jackknife were recovered.
The statement read in part; “In response to safety concerns along rail-track corridors, the Ministry of Transport, in collaboration with the Lagos State Task Force, conducted a targeted operation on November 13, 2024, to address illegal activity posing risks to commuters.
“This midnight raid spanned five kilometres from Pen-Cinema under the bridge to Fagba Junction, resulting in the removal of unauthorized structures and the arrest of 94 individuals.
“Confiscated items included a locally fabricated gun, illicit substances, charms, and a jackknife. Legal proceedings are underway for those apprehended.
“This joint operation highlights our commitment to ensuring safe, reliable, and accessible transit routes.
“We appreciate the public’s support in maintaining a secure transportation network for all.”
