Lagos Bus Services Limited has condemned recent attack on Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) passengers by hoodlums along Orile axis.
As contained in a statement signed by LBSL Public Affairs Officer, Afolabi Olawale, the attack on BRT buses is has become alarming and unacceptable with the state keen on bringing perpetrators to book.
LBSL’s Managing Director, Idowu Oguntona, according to the statement, recounted how the Mile 2-Leventis bound bus was halted by mobs as it approached Ore-Ofe bus stop.
He described how the hoodlums attacked the bus passengers, inflicting various degrees of injuries on the victims while robbing them of the their belongings.
“The recent trend of hoodlums attacking our buses and passengers has become both alarming and unacceptable.
“The Lagos State Government will not stand idly by and allow such acts of lawlessness and illicit acts to continue. Mr. Idowu Oguntona. the Managing Director/CEO of Lagos Bus Services Limited (LBSL). made this clear during an interactive session with the press today at the LBSL headquarters in llupeju.
“Addressing the incident that prompted this stern warning. Mr. Oguntona recounted the attack on one of the company’s buses by hoodlums. These criminals vandalized the bus and caused panic among the passengers. Such behaviour is inhumane. intolerable. and totally unacceptable.
“Mr. Oguntona stated that the bus. which was traveling from Mile2 to Leventis. was approaching the Ore-Ofe bus stop on the Orile axis with 35 passengers on board when a large mob suddenly emerged and swarmed the bus.
“The attackers assaulted passengers, stabbed them with sharp objects. and robbed them of their phones and other valuables.
“Mr Oguntona reiterated the government’s commitment in ensuring that those responsible for this heinous act are punished.
“These criminals. who cannot be true Lagosians but rather agents of anarchy, have no place in any decent society.” The statement read.
