The Lagos State Wastewater Management Office (LSWMO) has sealed Leventis House, Apapa, and Exclusive Mansion Hotel, Surulere, over illegal discharge of untreated wastewater and sewage.
This was disclosed in a statement issued by the state government on Wednesday.
According to the statement, the two properties were sealed off in continuous demonstration of the state government’s commitment to public health safety, credible and sustainable wastewater management.
The illegal discharge of the untreated wastewater and sewage by Leventis House and the Exclusive Mansion Hotel were reported to have caused pollution, putting the health of their immediate environment at risk.
LSWMO personnel in collaboration with officers from the Lagos State Taskforce and the Lagos Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC) carried out the exercise.
Speaking on the development, LSWMO’s General Manager, Engr. Adefemi Afolabi, said it is disheartening to find notable establishments, polluting the environment and causing health hazards for the citizens of the State.
He emphasised that the Agency remains undeterred in its efforts to ensure a clean and healthy environment in the State.
The General Manager, however, held that this kind of situation will not be permitted as such Organisations will be sanctioned in line with the provisions of the Lagos State Environmental Management and Protection Law, 2017.
“This will serve as a deterrent to others who use the cover of the night to perpetuate environmental nuisance in the State, endangering the health and well-being of the citizens of the State”, he asserted.
