The Lagos State Government has sealed a Victoria-Island based restaurant, Yakoyo Abula, over suspected hoodlums’ attack on officials of the state’s Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC) and Wastewater Management Office (LSWMO).
The hoodlums allegedly hired by the management of the restaurant had launched the deadly on the officials following their arrival for the enforcement of environmental standards over the restaurant’s alleged discharge of untreated wastewater, fats and oil into the environment,
As disclosed in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Lagos Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, the incident which occurred earlier today saw the hoodlums inflict different degrees of injuries on the officials.
Video attached to the statement shared on the Commissioner’s X handle captured sound of broken bottles launched at the officials and their operational vehicles.
Subsequent clip in the video showed of the officials visibly bloodied from a head injury sustained during the attack.
While condemning the ugly development, Wahab disclosed that the restaurant has been sealed with its supervisor arrested.
The Commissioner alleged that restaurant had initially broken the seal imposed on the facility, leading to the reinforcement of the officials to close down the restaurant.
They were however met with strong resistance from the armed hoodlums who forced them to retreat after inflicting injuries on some of the officials.
Wahab held that the restaurant has been resealed till further notice as he warned business owners against assaulting or obstructing government officers from carrying out their duties.
He further warned that any attempt to intimidate government officials will be met with firm and immediate consequences.
The statement read; “In a follow up joint enforcement operation carried out today 10th December, 2025 by the Lagos State Wastewater Management Office (LSWMO) and Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC) also known as KAI, to enforce environmental standards on the indiscriminate discharge of untreated wastewater, fats and oil into the environment, hoodlums from the Yakoyo Abula Restaurants Victoria Island at 134, Sinari Daranijo Street Victoria Island, attacked KAI Officers and injured four (4) in the course of the operation.
“The Yakoyo restaurant not only broke the government’s seal, they went further to unleash armed thugs on officials who were lawfully carrying out their duties.
“This crosses every line. Let it be clear: Any individual or business that assaults, obstructs, or threatens government officers on duty will face decisive action.
“Such premises will be sealed without hesitation, and those responsible will be prosecuted. We will not allow lawlessness to take root in Lagos.
“No one is above the law, and any attempt to intimidate government officials will be met with firm and immediate consequences.
“The Supervisor of the restaurant was arrested, the facility sealed until further notice while further arrests are to be made to fish out the perpetrators of this unlawful act.”
