The Lagos State command of the Nigerian police force on Sunday said it’s operatives have arrested some leaders of the Yoruba Nation agitation who were planning to set up a camp ahead of a massive protest.
Benjamin Hundeyin, command spokesman, said that the men had arrived Alausa with hordes of materials including cooking utensils and foodstuffs to aid their protests.
“Earlier today, a number of Yoruba Nation agitators commenced setting up camp at Alausa, planned to be used as base to launch a massive protest.
“Camp was promptly dislodged while agitators were arrested,” Hundeyin said
He said Investigation would continue at the state criminal investigation department of the command.
“Lawlessness,” he vowed, “WILL NOT be tolerated” in the state
Yoruba Nation agitators are demanding for a separate country to be carved out of Nigeria for the Yoruba.
Last year, a similar protest ended in some bloody clashes between men of the police command and some of the members.
