Lagos State Police Command have commenced investigation into the case of man who died in custody at Ajah Police Station.
The deceased, identified as Oduga Igbayitayo, was reportedly arrested by the police following an argument with a female neighbor who filed complaint at Ikota Police station and initiated his arrest.
Oduga would be transferred to the Ajah Police station where he died after being allegedly tortured by the policemen.
His body was deposited at Epe General Hospital mortuary.
Reacting in a post on his X handle on Wednesday, the Lagos Police Command’s spokesperson, Bemjamin Hundeyin, disclosed that the Investigative Police Officer (IPO) in charge of the case has been held in custody alongside the female neighbor who reported Oduga to the police.
Hundeyin further disclosed that an autopsy is currently being carried out on the deceased to confirm the cause of his death,
“Investigations have since commenced. The Investigating Police Officer (IPO) and the complainant are currently in custody at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Yaba.
“Meanwhile, an autopsy is about being carried out to determine the cause of death, after which further necessary actions will follow.
“Members of the public are assured that a thorough investigation will be carried out and any person(s) found culpable will be dealt with in accordance with the law.” the Lagos PPRO wrote.
