No fewer than 84 homeless people have been arrested by Lagos State Environmental Taskforce during a raid at Agege area of the state in the early hours of Friday.
The state’s Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, confirmed the arrest in a post on his X handle.
According to Wahab, the homeless persons, comprising of 82 males and two females, were apprehended during the ongoing clean up enforcement operation along Railway corridor (Ojurin) Isale Oja, Oke koto, AP in Agege area and other adjoining streets.
He vowed to charge all the suspects.
“Lagos State Environmental Taskforce on Friday, 20th june, 2025 embarked on its ongoing clean up enforcement operation in Agege area.
“The areas visited during the operation includes; Railway corridor (Ojurin) Isale Oja, Oke koto, AP in Agege area and other adjoining streets where the presence of some undesirable elements was noticed.
“During the raid exercise, a total number of 84 suspects were arrested which comprises 82 males and 2 females.
“All the Suspects will be charged to court accordingly.” The post read.
As captured in a video attached to the post, some of the suspects were arrested while asleep and whisked into a waiting Black Maria van.
One of the suspects had, in defiance, climbed the roof of the van, forcing an operative of the taskforce to get him off the roof.
