Lagos State Environmental Taskforce has on Tuesday evening nabbed 15 minors and 12 other traffic beggars following a raid along Lekki- Ikoyi axis.
This was disclosed in a post on X by the state’s Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab.
As seen in a video attached to the post, the taskforce officials rounded up the unsuspecting beggars along Awolowo Way up to Falomo round about.
The taskforce advanced to Ikoyi and Ozumba Mbadiwe Avenue where most of the minors were apprehended and whisked into a waiting vehicle.
According to Wahab, the raid on the beggars was in a bid to get rid of destitutes and miscreants causing public nuisance in the areas.
He disclosed that the suspects will be transferred to appropriate government facilities in line with relevant enabling laws.
“The Lagos State Environmental Taskforce yesterday evening, continued its raid operation against persons constituting public nuisance across the metropolis. Major routes raided includes; Awolowo Way up to Falomo round about, Ikoyi and Ozumba Mbadiwe Avenue, along Lekki road.
“This is in a bid to arrest and get rid of destitutes and miscreants causing public nuisance in the areas.
“27 persons including 15 minors involved in the unlawful act of street begging in the middle of vehicular traffic/hold-ups were apprehended during the operation. All suspects will be transferred to appropriate government facilities in line with relevant enabling laws.” the Commissioner wrote.
