Members of the Lagos State House of Assembly (LAHA) has dissolved all standing committees following the impeachment of Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa as they stressed that they have had enough of the former Speaker.
The lawmakers disclosed this while addressing newsmen after Obasa’s impeachment on Monday at the state Assembly in Ikeja.
While announcing Hon. Mojisola Meranda as the new speaker, Rep. Tobun Abiodun (APC, Epe 1), who spoke on behalf of the lawmakers, also declared all standing committees and principal positions dismissed.
“Hon. Mojisola Meranda become the new Speaker of the house. It was a resolution concurred to by all members of the parliament and so be it with Hon. Fatai Mojeed Adebola as the Deputy Speaker of the House of Assembly.
“And as we speak, all the principal positions have been dissolved, and all the standing committees have been dissolved.
“The House as you can see, we have resolved to work together and ensure that we move the parliament to the next level.” he said.
On the reason behind Obasa’s impeachment, Abiodun, in what he described as a change of baton, held that the house unanimously decided impeachment over the lingering discord within the parliament.
“It is just a change of baton. As we are, it is only death that is constant. So, change is inevitable. The members of the parliament today have decided to change its leadership in the house.
“The constitution made it clear that the house has the power to regulate its proceedings. So, the members of the house felt they’ve had enough of the leadership of Rt. Hon Mudashiru Obasa. Today, we have unanimously agreed that Rt.
“We cannot open our eyes and allow this parliament to dwindle. We owe the constituents a duty and we owe Lagos state a duty of ensuring that the sanctity and integrity of the House is restored. That is, we have all unanimously agreed to carry out this action to save our image and save the state.” he added.
