English side player, Lauren James on Tuesday tendered her apology for behaving in a manner that earned her a red card on Monday.
James was sent out of the field of play during the match with Nigeria’s Super Falcons. She was caught deliberately stepping on a Nigerian player after both of them had fallen in the course of play. Though the referee had initially issued James a Yellow Card, the VAR machine had eventually given the player away as being intentional in the act. She was subsequently given a red card. “All my love and respect to you. I am sorry for what happened.
“Also, for our England fans and my team-mates, playing with and for you is my greatest honour and I promise to learn from my experience,” she tweeted on Tuesday. Her team eventually won the game with a 4-2 win after penalty shootouts.
