The President of the Senate, Ahmed Lawan, has emerged winner of the just concluded senatorial election in Yobe North.
The position was keenly contested between the two major political parties in the state, the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The Returning Officer of the zone, Professor Omolola Aduoju of the Federal University Gashua, Yobe State, announced the result at Umar Suleiman College of Education Gashua.
Adunoju said Lawan polled 91,318 votes to defeat his rival of the PDP, Ilu Alhaji-Bello, who got 22,849 votes out of the 122,136 total valid votes cast.
The Senate President who will return to the National Assembly after spending about 22 years in both the Green and the Red chambers represents Yobe North.
Also, the All Progressives Congress Senatorial Candidate for Ogun West Senatorial District in Ogun state, Senator Solomon Adeola has emerged the winner of Ogun West Senatorial District seat in the Presidential and National Assembly Election held on Saturday.
Senator Solomon Adeola who doubles as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Finance, is the senator currently representing Lagos West Senatorial District won the Ogun West Senatorial election by a total vote of 112,887 to his closest rival of PDP, Chief Ganiyu Dada Obanibasiri who scored 60,189. The Labour Party candidate came third with a total vote of 19, 244.
The result was announced by Professor. Oluseye Olusegun Onabanjo of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta at the Oronna Townhall, Ilaro, the Ogun West Senatorial Collation Centre at about 7:30pm on Sunday.
Senator Adeola who had won all his five previous elections consecutively made national history by winning again in Ogun West from his present senatorial district of Lagos West making a senator in a state and a senator-elect in another state until the expiration of his current term in June this year.
“I want to assure you that having gone round the 59 wards of the district, I am aware of the developmental challenges facing my people in the area of infrastructure, energy, education and healthcare. Even before the election, I have started addressing some of these challenges and I promise to continue in similar pattern in the days, weeks and months ahead” Yayi said shortly after he was declared winner
In the same vein, the former governor in Ogun State who’s also the candidate of APC for Ogun East, Gbenga Daniel, has won the senatorial seat as announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Daniel, secured 115,147 votes while the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) polled 58,708 votes, and Labour Party followed with 13,061 votes.
The official results were announced by the Returning Officer, Prof. Christopher Onwuka, at the Ogun East Senatorial Collation Centre in Itoro Hall, Ijebu-Ode.
Daniel cleared all nine local government areas (LGA) in the senatorial district, including Ijebu North, Odogbolu, Remo North, Sagamu, Ijebu North-East, Ijebu Ode, Ijebu East, Ikenne and Ogun Waterside.
Having satisfied the requirements of the law, polling the highest number of votes, Daniel was declared winner of the senatorial election.
The Independent National Electoral Commission has also declared Solihu Mustapha of the All Progressive Congress the winner of the Kwara Central Senatorial District election.
Mr Mustapha secured 109,823 votes to defeat the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Mr Bolaji Abdullahi.
Mr Abdullahi, who is a former minister of sports, got 69,202 votes.
