Nigerian lawyer, Sabina Nkiru has apologized to lawmaker, Bashir El-Rufai, over false claim of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s (EFCC) raid of his house.
Nkiru , in a letter of apology issued on Tuesday to the House of Representatives member, also retracted her statement on the alleged discovery of $800 million and N700 Billion cash as well N1 Trillion Worth of Drugs by the EFCC during the raid.
On the 5th of December, 2024, the lawyer had posted the alleged raid of the apartment owned by the lawmaker representing Kaduna North Federal Constituency at the Green Chamber.
Nkiru has, however, admitted to the falsehood, stressing that she failed to verify the truthfulness of the statement before posting.
She expressed her remorse over the false allegation against the lawmaker and son of former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai.
“I am a legal practitioner of the above address and I write on behalf of myself.
“I hereby retract the post I made on X (formerly twitter) on 5th December, 2024, where I shared that a raid was conducted in the house of Nasir El-Rufai’s son by the EFFC and $800 Million, N700 Billion Cash, and N1 Trillion Worth of Drugs were discovered.
“I hereby whole-heartedly apologize for the said post. I did not verify the veracity or truthfulness of the statement before posting, and all attempts thereafter to verify it proved abortive.
“I have since discovered that the statement is completely false.
“Please kindly accept this letter as a retraction of my said post and as an expression of my sincere apology.
“I never intended to offend or embarrass you, your family, or the Federal House of Representatives, nor to harm your reputation.” Nkiru wrote.
