A human rights lawyer, Festus Ogun, has announced plan to sue Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, for allegedly blocking him on X (formerly Twitter).
Ogun, in a post on his X handle on Friday, disclosed that the governor blocked him since 2022.
In what he described as an attack on his constitutional right to freedom of expression, the lawyer disclosed that he will be suing the governor to court in August.
“For about three years, Babajide Sanwo-olu has blocked me on Twitter.
“August 2025, I will be approaching the court for legal remedies.
“As a Lagos resident, I am convinced that my blocking is an attack on my constitutional right to freedom of expression.” Ogun wrote.
While there had been no such case in Nigeria’s history, the suit will however serve as a replica of a United States lawyer, Rebecca Buckwalter-Poza, who alongside six other plaintiffs sued the US President, Donald Trump, to court in 2018 for blocking them on X.
The plaintiffs won against Trump as the federal judge ruled that his behavior was not consistent with the US First Amendment, stressing that his social media handle is a public forum.
