The Speaker of Osun State House of Assembly, Timothy Owoeye has been advised to thread the path of one of his predecessors, Adejare Bello by not making any attempt to impeach Sen. Ademola Adeleke after swearing in.
A People’s Democratic Party loyalist in Osun State, Akintunde Bello Sheriff (popularly called ABS) said that some of the loyalists of the outgoing government in the state have been making impeachment threat as an escape route for their illegality.
Akintunde reminded the Speaker and APC lawmakers how Adejare was pressurized by the PDP-led Federal Government under former President Goodluck Jonathan to remove Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola having retrieved his mandate through the court in 2010.
The move was to pave the way for Otunba Iyiola Omisore in 2011.
The PDP enthusiast stressed that despite the heat from different quarters, Bello had no choice than to align with the mood of the people in the state and allowed Aregbesola to remain as the Governor.
He said this later turned out to be good for Aregbesola and Bello.
“I have noted the slanted lines by the APC boys who are finding it hard to get weaned from breastfeeding otherwise called political patronage with the imminent assumption to office of Senator Ademola Adeleke with their dangling of the impeachment threat as a subtle escape route to perhaps communicate why the illegal councillors and chairmen who emerged from the dubious election by the Oladitan led OSSIEC must not be dissolved upon the inauguration of fresh PDP administration in Osun State come November 2022,”he wrote
“I need to speak with due respect to the sensibility of the Speaker of Osun State House of Assembly, the Rt. Honourable Timothy Owoeye not to be pushed into an avoidable mess. Anybody who nurses an impeachment agenda may never live to see it to the end because the people who voted for Senator Ademola Adeleke will revolt and such revolt which is genuine can hardly be quenched.”
He advised the House especially APC Lawmakers to remember how Bello handled the attempt to sponsor an impeachment agenda against Aregbesola.
He recalled “The then Speaker Chief Adejare Bello had been summoned to the villa in Abuja in audience with the then President Goodluck Jonathan and promised mind blowing offers just to impeach the new Governor who had just been sworn in, so that Otunba Omisore could easily still be able to get to the office of Governor in the year 2011.
“Alas, Adejare Bello being a versatile politician with very high native intelligence typical of an average Ede Son, thought twice. He knew the implications will be far reaching and devastating such that it can not be quantified with any largesse or dollars rain, God owns everything. Oluomo Adejare Bello had to cooperate and align with the mood of the state to which he sworn to protect and that was how the matter settled.
“Rauf Aregbesola loved Adejare Bello for it and they both cohabitated together throughout the remainder of the tenure of the parliament under Speaker Adejare Bello, and so the rest is history. Bello was happy for it and Aregbesola was equally fulfilled.
“Quite 4 years later, Oluomo Adejare Bello was made the running mate to Senator Iyiola Omisore as a governorship candidate. Adejare Bello’s standing fair earlier by not considering impeachment to favour Omisore was not enough to undo his positive destiny 4 years later. Uprightness pays!”
