Liverpool forward, Darwin Nunez, has bagged lengthy international ban over misconduct.
Following the Uruguayan international’s brawl with fans at last month’s Copa America semi-final loss to Colombia, Nunez has been suspended from five international games.
Though this does not affect his club appearance, he will, however will miss Uruguay’s friendly against Guatemala as well as their upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Paraguay, Venezuela, Peru and Ecuador.
According to report, Nunez had lept into spectators stands to protect his family after mayhem broken out in the stands following the final whistle of the Copa America match.
A section of the stadium close to where the players’ families were sat was targeted by drinks being launched and punches were thrown in the melee which saw players intervene to confront fans.
Joining his colleagues, Nunez tried to shield his family with TV coverage showing the Liverpool striker hitting a Colombian fan who hit him first.
Meanwhile, also suspended from international football are Mathias Olivera, Ronaldo Araujo and Jose Gimenez who all received three-game bans.
Tottenham’s Rodrigo Bentancur, on his part, was handed a four-match ban.
