Labour Party’s Ondo governorship candidate, Ayo Olorunfemi, and his Africa Democratic Congress (ADC) counterpart, Myson Aderemi, have congratulated Lucky Aiyedatiwa over his victory at the poll.
The duo, in a separate statement expressed their well wishes to the governor elect.
Aiyedatiwa won the poll with 366,781 votes beating his closest rival Agboola Ajayi of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who recorded 117,845 votes.
In his congratulatory message, Olorunfemi assured Aiyedatiwa of his support to his administration while seeking to establish closer relationship with governor elect.
“Please accept my warm congratulations on your victory and my best wishes for your success as you prepare to take up the responsibilities and challenges of your high office,
“As you embark upon your new responsibilities, I wish to assure you and the people of Ondo State of the continued friendship and sympathetic interest of our great party.
“I look forward to working with you not only to develop closer relations based on our shared values but also to concert our efforts in the cause of peace, development, and the brotherhood of our people.” the LP candidate wrote.
On his part, Myson Aderemi, in his statement issued on Sunday, accepted defeat to Aiyedatiwa as he felicitated with the governor.
He commended the conduct of the election which he said was peaceful despite some imperfections observed.
Aderemi, however, held that the ADC will continue to play its role as a viable opposition by holding the State Government under Aiyedatiwa’s leadership accountable for policies and actions taken in government,
“Today, the 17th day of November 2024, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Governor of Ondo State, His Excellency, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa as the winner of the Ondo State Governorship election held on Saturday the 16th day of November 2024,
“Having reviewed the conduct of the election which was peaceful, despite the imperfections and pockets of challenges characteristic of any electoral process anywhere in the world, one cannot be left in doubt, as an objective participant in the process, that the election was conducted in substantial compliance with the provisions of the Electoral Act, 2022.
“Furthermore and considering the towering imperative to prioritise the interest of the people of Ondo State over personal individual interest or ambition, I have in consultation with my supporters and party leaders and faithful, resolved to felicitate with the winner of the election, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, to wish him well and share in the joy of his victory.
“While we continue, as a candidate and as a party, to play our role as a viable opposition by holding the State Government under the leadership of Gov. Aiyedatiwa accountable for policies and actions taken in government, we wish him resounding success in office as he continues to govern the State till February 2025 when he shall take the oath of office to preside over the affairs of the State for another four years.” Aderemi wrote.
