The Independent National Electoral Commission has declared the Governor of Oyo state Engr. Seyi Makinde winner of the Saturday’s governorship election that held in the state.
The Chief Returning Officer, Prof Simeon Adebayo Bamire, who announced the final result at the collation centre in Ibadan, said Makinde had satisfied the requirement to be so declared.
Major contender against Makinde included Bayo Adelabu of the Accord Party and Teslim Folarin of the All Progressive Congress.
INEC said Makinde scorfed 563, 756 while Folarin scored 256,685 votes.
In his immediate reaction after the announcement of the result, Makinde said the reward for hard work is more work, adding that he dedicated the victory the people, his leaders and all those who have made it possible to continue in office for another four years.
“We will work even harder in the next four years,” he said.

OUR EARLIER REPORT
Results available to the NPO Reports from the Saturday governorship and state House of Assembly elections in Oyo have shown that the incumbent Seyi Makinde has won in 30 local council areas of the state.
His closest rival Senator Teslim Folarin has won in 3 local council areas leaving the third major contender Bayo Adelabu with no win in any local government area of the state.
How PDP Overran APC
NPO Reports that many leaders of the party were not taken by surprise as they were aware that the internal wrangling in the APC ahead of the party primaries had weakened party members support for the Senator.
It was learnt that Folarin was more like an orphan in the APC in the election as he got no support from the leadership of the APC to make him present a formidable challenge to the incumbent.
It was also leant that rather than supporting the APC candidate, the leadership of the party gave a tacit backing to Makinde as a result of a suspected deal between the Governor and the President Elect Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
