The Wole Soyinka Centre for Investigative Journalism will today induct its fellows into its Female Reporters’ Leadership Programme (FRLP) in Lagos.
The event slated to hold at Raddison Hotel, Ikeja, will also witness awards to deserving female journalists who have shown leadership in the discharge of their duties.
According to a statement made available to the NPO Reports by Mrs. Motunrayo Alaka, Executive Director of the centre, the 2023 Report Women FRLP programme is designed to create a strong community of female reporters with leadership skills and support to lead conversations on gender parity within the news and newsrooms.
It explained further the efforts is geared towards making the Nigerian news media as female as it is already male through impactful story and leadership projects that disrupt the status quo.
“FRLP programme and its fellowship continues to grow with each year’s entry application becoming more competitive. The 12 participants for the 2023 FRLP Fellowship were shortlisted from 173 valid entries, with three from Zambia, Ghana, and Kenya respectively.”
It said that at the end of this year’s induction and award ceremony, FRLP will have produced 86 Fellows.
“The fellowship induction and award ceremony mark the official close of activities for the 2023 Report Women! FRLP participants, where they will be confirmed as Fellows after the successful completion of their leadership and story projects, and other requirements,” it added.
