The Department of State Security has accused terrorism negotiator, Tulur Mamu of being a financier of terrorism.
The agency said Mamu’s trip out of Nigeria before his arrest was to attend a terrorism summit in Saudi Arabia.
In an affidavit deposed to by the DSS and presented before the court, the agency stated that “The self-acclaimed Kaduna train negotiator exploited the opportunity to perpetrate, aid and abet, as well as render support to both local and international terrorist organisations.
“He was intercepted by the Nigerian foreign partners at Cairo, Egypt, on September 6, 2022, while on his way to Saudi Arabia for a clandestine meeting with commanders and top leaders of terrorists organisations across the globe.”
The agency, which had been granted right to detain Mamu for another 60 days by the court, said investigations have shown that Mamu aides and abet acts of terrorism.
The affidavit was filed by the DSS lawyer, Mr. U. N. Dauda.
Mamu, before his arrest on September 6, was the go-between for family members of those abducted from the train attacks in Kaduna in March this year.
At least 8 persons were killed in that attack.
It was the first time a major train attack was taking place involving killings of that number and kidnapping of more than 160 passengers.
Mamu, who is the publisher of Desert Heral, is also a media consultant to controversial Islamic cleric, Ahmad Gumi.
